- The Catalyst

Fluss Ewig

Fluss Ewig was designed and built as a memorial for my father and the catalyst to my journey in woodworking. Just weeks after my father passed away, our architecture studio class in college was assigned to design a pavilion-like structure that resembled the character of basket weaving. This design was dedicated to him.

“Fluss Ewig” can be translated to “Constantly Changing.” It was named this because every angle you looked at the sculpture it changed with perspective and seemed to move when looking at it. The other reason was because that was what life felt like at the time - constantly changing. Lastly, the name is in German as a homage to the Becker family name.

I found my passion for woodworking through designing and building this memorial and credit my father as the inspiration. Because of this, Fluss Ewig became the Studio Becker logo.

Fluss Ewig was always meant to have been a temporary structure and was disassembled a year after its erection. I hope to one day build a permanent memorial for my father on the Becker family farm in Southeast Missouri.
