About Coulton

With a passion for design, Coulton Becker studied architecture and interior design at the University of Missouri in 2016. During his sophomore year of college, he encountered a drastic change in his life with the passing of his father due to cancer.

After his passing, Becker looked for a way to deal with that loss, approaching the situation in the same way he saw design - creatively. Becker designed and constructed a memorial for his father entitled “Fluss Ewig.” This German phrase translates to “constantly changing,” the only way to aptly describe his life at the time.

“I had never built anything like this before. As an architectural studies major, I had experience designing creative buildings and creating models, but never had the opportunity to bring any of my designs to life on a large scale. The moment I took a step back from the completed memorial, I realized my passion for design and woodcraft.”

After graduating in 2019, Becker took an architectural designer position in Frisco, CO designing luxury mountain homes. However, when the pandemic hit in 2020, Becker explored his passion, instilled from his father’s memorial, designing and building with a raw, natural material - wood.

Despite the pandemic, Becker formed STUDIO BECKER and settled back into the Midwest in Kansas City, MO in 2021.

“To me, anybody can build something - that is a skill that can be learned. The passion I have for my craft lies in what the process and finished product mean, not just what they are. Physical objects often have a meaning and emotion associated with them, and that’s what I aim to instill in every piece I work on - in my mind, each piece should be as intangible as it is tangible. “
